The Way Way Back (2013)
2013-07-13, 1:18 am

WARNING!!!! If you know me personally, you may read my diary, but if you do, you take the chance of reading things you don't want to know, misunderstanding what I've written and being hurt by it. If you are unsure if it is okay to read, save yourself, and me, the grief and heartache, and ask first!!! Please note that this is a DIARY, I.E. my subjective feelings, hearsay, suppositions, and outpourings of ranting of the moment. It does not represent objective news, the whole of what I think of a topic or someone, or even a thought-out representation of any of the above. This I hope you keep in mind, and thank you for reading.

Rolling Stone's review of "The Way, Way Back" ended without any real reason why he gave it less than 4 stars (out of four stars), and it bothered me that it didn't...and now it bothers me especially since I just left the theater as it didn't deserve anything less (especially, for some reason, on a scale of 1 to 4).
This might be my new favorite movie of the year.
I'll always be biased towards a feel-good flick, which this one doesn't appear to be for the first half of the movie, but once Sam Rockwell's character comes in to give the story direction, you realize the symbolism of the "way, way back'' is where you want to be and in the end, we're not the only ones.
The only way to judge this movie is on a ten scale...and it's as perfect as it gets, especially for a summer movie, even bringing the feel of a summer vacation more artfully than anything with "summer" or "vacation" in the title. As a high school teacher, I would show this in class, as the flick has many of the themes and messages schools push in their literature. For me, the power of film reins supreme as an art form. Even if most movies make you forget the idea of art in cinema, this one allows you to forget you're even watching a movie, as all films should.
